Declaration
We declare our shared commitment to unite all stakeholders in transforming tourism to deliver effective climate action.
We support the global commitment to halve emissions by 2030 and reach Net Zero as soon as possible before 2050.
We will consistently align our actions with the latest scientific recommendations, so as to ensure our approach remains consistent with a rise of no more than 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels by 2100.
As a signatory, we commit to:
Deliver a climate action plan within 12 month of signing.
Report publicly both progress against interim and long-term targets, as well as the actions being taken, at least annually.
Align our plan with five shared pathways (measure, decarbonise, regenerate, collaborate, finance) to ensure climate action is consistent across all of tourism.
Share information on activities connected to Tourism Declares and/or the Glasgow Declaration among contacts and networks.
Work in a collaborative and constructive spirit with other members of Tourism Declares and/or signatories of the Glasgow Declaration.
Do I have to use these exact words?
Feel free to adapt the text to fit your own style, and add any additional details you wish, so long as you maintain the original commitments and your declaration remains aligned with climate science.
Do I have to sign the Glasgow Declaration?
You do not have to sign the Glasgow Declaration to join Tourism Declares, however the commitments on this page are the same as the commitments everyone makes who signs the Glasgow Declaration. Signing the Glasgow Declaration demands no extra commitment from you to climate action, and considerably increases the reach of our advocacy.
All Climate Action Plans need to be registered/updated with the One Planet Network, which is the host of the Glasgow Declaration and the official registry for Climate Action Plans.

Why do some Tourism Declares members have different commitments on their websites?
All members of Tourism Declares community have made a shared public commitment to climate action. Between our launch in January 2020 and October 28, 2021, anyone who joined Tourism Declares did so by making five public commitments, such as found in this original sample declaration.
During 2021, Tourism Declares worked with other members of the Glasgow Declaration’s drafting committee to build on our original five commitments and accelerate climate action across the entire tourism sector. Now that it is live, we have redrafted our commitments to align.
What are the ‘five shared pathways’? Why do they matter?
These pathways frame the Glasgow Declaration, and were reached after extensive consultation across our industry to ensure our plans align both with the needs of science and with each other’s efforts. There is more information on the pathways, and answers to many other questions on the Glasgow Declaration website and its FAQs.
